Small-scale gold mining in the Sahel and West Africa (more details coming soon)

Countries of the Sahel have mined gold for thousands of years. The ASGM sector stretches across the entirety of the Sahel, and throughout West Africa (refer to Pact Report from 2019). In many regions, small-scale mine operators and government agencies struggle with challenges including unsafe underground mining practices (lack of adequate training), unsafe mercury use for extracting gold, environmental impacts and community conflict, insecurity and human rights, and in some cases poorly designed mining regulations (not well suited for small-scale operators). There is a major need for Africa-based companies tob lead the way in terms of training and professionalization services for the ASGM sector. SCG has been established to respond to this need.
